Hot spring hotel
Embraced by Nature
Message from Owner
Genzo Sarashina, the great poet from Teshikaga Town, wrote about Eastern Hokkaido as follows.
「Some people say, “The real Hokkaido can be found beyond the border of Karikachi,” and I unequivocally agree.
It stands at the lakefront of Lake Kusharo, which is the largest in Japan as a lake that freezes over completely, and is the second largest as a caldera lake.
WAKKANUPURI accommodates only one group per day.
Appreciate the best of the season
What we serve
Seasonal specialties with carefully selected fresh ingredients from Eastern Hokkaido
Our chef, who has dedicated his professional life to Japanese cuisine, proudly serves special meals that will remind you of the great mother nature of Hokkaido with the carefully gathered ingredients.
You will appreciate every bite of the locally produced food ranging from delicious crab and the wide variety of seafood from the Okhotsk Sea, Wagyu beef and pork bred in Hokkaido, and organically cultivated vegetables.
You can also go fishing on the boat we own, and taste the fresh fish you caught at dinner.

Feeling life on the earth
Hot spring water at 46 degrees Celsius is flowing abundantly from the source of spring on the hotel property. It is actually not quite easy to use the water directly from the spring as it is without adding anything – the water has to be not too hot, not too cold.
46 degrees Celsius is the perfect temperature at which you can comfortably bathe in the open-air bath even in the midwinter. This indeed is a blessing of the nature.
You may be lucky to see swans elegantly flying over the lake or lovely Hokkaido squirrels from the bath.
you gracious time
Open the double door and you will have the magnificent view of Lake Kussharo right in front of your eyes.
Between the late autumn and early spring, you will see whooper swans visiting the lakeside and elegantly flying over the lake as you get relaxed in the bath.
In summer when a variety of animals run around the hotel, you may catch lovely sight of squirrels and Ezo red foxes from the bath.
In autumn, the hotel is enveloped in blazing red of autumn foliage, perfecting your gracious time.
your good sleep

The western-style room WAKKA has a Simmons’ Executive Premium Bed and American Leather’s Comfort Sleeper installed, both of which promise you comfortable sleep.

Playing with Nature
Array of Activities
View mountains from the lakeshore,
Wonder around the forest where animals have fun
In spring, when the ice covering the entire lake melts, plants start to bud all together and animals begin to run around the forest with a voice of joy.
Cherry salmon swims up waterfalls in summertime, and glowing autumn foliage is reflected on the lake in autumn.
In winter, the most beautiful season of all, you will find whooper swans coming afar from Siberia resting their wings on the lakefront as well as Ezo red foxes walking on the frozen lake.
You can fish from any shore of Lake Kussharo.
The hotel's boat moves around the lake freely for you to enjoy fishing rainbow trout, white-spotted char and red salmon.
You can ride on a horse native to Hokkaido from the stock farm near Lake Kussharo to the lake.
It is an extraordinary experience to travel on the lakeshore on the back of a horse, which you can enjoy not only in spring or autumn, but also in the midwinter.
Canoeing the Kushiro River
The Kushiro River, one of the most popular canoeing destinations, originates from lake Kussharo and flows into the Pacific Ocean, and is 154 kilometers (96 miles) in length.
While its winding shape in the Kushiro Marshland is quite famous, the nature at the headwaters coming from Lake Kussharo is just overwhelmingly beautiful.
